Hands together

About the partnership

Gilead have funded the development and improvement of Avert’s online content on the Be in the KNOW website, for individuals seeking knowledge on HIV and sexual health, for community health workers, and medical practitioners. For individuals, this online information allows them to make informed decisions about their sexual health, navigate the health system, and seek out support to stay HIV-free, or to live healthily on treatment.

Gilead also funded the original development of the Boost app, which was launched in January 2020 after being co-created with community health workers in Southern Africa. Boost is Avert’s mobile phone app and website designed to support the ongoing learning and work of community health workers across southern Africa. Boost provides easy, up-to-date, visual and interactive materials on HIV, sexual health and now COVID-19, which community health workers can share with their clients.

Gilead is deeply committed to an HIV response led by the people and communities most affected by it. We are proud to partner with Avert in their work to support these communities in ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic. From promoting science and evidence-based practice, building the capacity of grassroots community groups, and improving health literacy among most-affected communities, Avert’s work is crucial in amplifying their voices and ensuring their needs are heard.
